Our Trains
The Chingford & District Model Enginnering Club is the proud owner of many locomotives in a range of different gauges that thanks to the hard work of our voulenteers, we are able to have fully operational fleet for the vast majority of the year (except when they need a little bit of TLC) and can driven by our harworking memebers for both training purposes and during public running days. Below is a list of all of our locomotives and a short history about them and how we managed to aquire them. You may see other locomotives pulling trains when you visit us however these are privately owned and are therefore not listed below
5 Inch Electric Locomotives
Hornet
This locomotive is based of the British Railways class 37 and is one of our main passenger pulling locomotives whenever we are running the 5 inch track
Dragonfly
Based on a British Railways class 86, Dragonfly is one of our passenger pulling locomotives whenever we are running our 5 inch track
Friendship
Based on a British Railways class 14 this electric locomotive plays a significant part in our passenger pulling services and was kindly donated by one of our members who has sadly passed away.

5 Inch Steam Locomotives
Grey Goose
A live steam 0-6-0 simplex locomotive aquired by the club in order to be used for training and passenger pulling purposes.

Edward Thomas
Based on the legendary "Edward Thomas" locomotive from the Talyllyn Railway in Wales, this locomotive was donated to the club and has since been used on a regular basis!
Blackfly
Originally started as a club project in 1999 and completed in 2004, this live steam replica 2-8-0 LNER locomotive is often seen running about pulling passenger services on our public running days
Firefly
Originally purchased in 1957 firefly is the very first locomotive owned by the club! It is based on an Atlantic locomotive with a 4-4-2 wheel arangement.

7 1/4 Inch Electric & Petrol Locomotives
Captain Howey
Based on the "Captain Howey", a locomotive named after the founder of he Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch railway in Kent. You will often see this locomotive pulling passenger services when we run the ground level track
The Green Shunter
Built for the soul purpose of shunting the rolling stock around our track, this locomotive is often seen being driven by our junior members when they help to set up the railway in preperation for the day.
Demoiselle
Purchased by the club in 2012, our little workhorse of a petrol locomotive was built by the Roanoke company and is always seen being driven by our voulenteers! It truly is a really useful engine.
7 1/4 Inch Steam Locomotives
Schmetterling
Complete in early 2005, this live steam replica of a German Kopple has been paramount to the running of our gound level railway and is always seen running around our track, even on particularly rainy days!
