Frequently Asked Quesions

When do the trains run?

The railway runs every Sunday between April and October from 13.30 to 17.00 and every Wednesday during August from 14.00 to 16:00

Do you take card?

Yes! We have a card reader allowing us to take payments on card - we understand that not everyone carries cash like they did when steam trains ran on the mainline!

Do I need to pre-book a train ride?

No! All tickets are avaliable on the day and can be purchased from our ticket offices.

How much does it cost to ride?

Fares vary depending on the trains that we are operating on the day, for the raised track tickets cost £1.00 and for the ground level track tickets cost £2.00. If your lucky enough to be under 3, you get to ride the trains for free!

Can I drive the trains?

Unfortunatly we cannot allow members of the public to drive our locomotives. We would however love for you to become a member of the Chingford and District Model Engineering Club in which case we will teach you to drive our locomotives!

Are the steam trains real?

Yes! Our steam trains are real and work in the same way that the standard size ones do... only in miniture! Some of them are even replicas of real life steam trains!

How long are the train rides?

The raised track takes about 2 minutes to ride around the whole track, whilst the gound level track takes about 7 minutes to ride.

Do the signals really work?

Yes! Our highly knowlegeable engineering team have expertly created a signalling system which is based of the mainline signaling systems that were previously found all over the country when steam engines roamed the rails. Our drivers strictly adhere to the signals in order to ensure the saftey and comfort of our passengers.

Is it dangerous?

Not at all, any and all dangers have been identified and the club has done everything we can to mitigate them and prevent anyone from experiencing and sort of inconveniance during your time with us.  We do however want to advise you that steam trains can emit sparks and so we ask that you be aware of this when around them.
